Q:   My understanding is that IF you are on COBRA for 18 months, you are GUARANTEED an insurance plan even if you have pre-existing conditions (over-weight, ADHD, etc.) Is this true?

A:  If you enroll in a new employer’s group health plan, they can’t deny you coverage do to your medical history.   If you apply for an individual policy, you can be turned down or have limitations on your pre-existing conditions.  However, you should contact your state’s department of insurance to see if your state has specific laws that will prevent an insurance company from denying you coverage when you apply for an individual policy.
