Q:   I am pregnant and due in December. I want to know what my options would be for coverage when I take my maternity leave. I am currently employed and planning to return to same job. What are my medical insurance responsibilities and what are the legal responsibilities of the company.

A:  If your employer has more than 20 employees they are subject to COBRA law and must offer you continuation of their group health plan during your maternity leave.  It would be the same policy, same benefits from the same insurance company that you had prior to the leave.  You will be responsible for paying the entire cost of the insurance when you are on COBRA.
