Q: I need to enroll in Cobra Insurance quickly. How can I do that? Is there a toll free number I can call now being a Sunday? Please let me know.
A: Your employer is required by law to offer you the continuation of their group health policy for up to 18 months if there are more than 20 employees. They or their plan administrator must mail you the COBRA packet with-in 45 days of your last day of group benefits. Once you receive the packet, you have 60 days to elect COBRA. Some plan administrators will allow you to sign up by phone or on their website once you receive the COBRA packet. Keep in mind that the insurance is retro-active, so when the paperwork has been processed the COBRA coverage starts on the same day that your group benefits ended. There won’t be any days that you are without insurance.
