Q:  I am currently working for a company in Trinidad Tobago but I will go to another company in Venezuela at the end of this month. My home address is in Houston and I need to know if COBRA has plans covering my family in Houston and also while I will be working in Venezuela.

A:  COBRA is a US Federal law that gives an employee the right to continue their employer's group health plan when a qualifying event occurs. Only US employers have to comply with this law.  If your previous employer is a US company then your family would be eligible for COBRA continuation.  You will need to contact your previous employer to find out if COBRA is available for your family.
