Q:  My 18 months of COBRA coverage will end August of '08. At that time I will be eligible for Medicare; my wife however, will not yet be eligible for Medicare. Can she continue to get coverage through COBRA?   If so, for how long?

A:  The covered employee that already has COBRA continuation and they become entitled to Medicare before the 18 months end, their spouse and dependents can stay on COBRA.   When this happens it is called a 2nd qualifying event.  The spouse or dependents will receive an additional 18 months of COBRA coverage for a total of 36 months.
