Q: I recently had my hours cut at work. I have not gotten a new policy yet and had an injury. It was not work related. Since the injury was an emergency, I needed to get treatment right away. If I start Cobra coverage today, will my injury be covered? Thank You Daniel
A: Getting your hours reduced is a qualifying event for COBRA. COBRA continuation is retro-active. You won't have a lapse in coverage because COBRA starts on the same day that your group benefits ended on. So, as long as you elect COBRA and make the first payment your medical bills will be covered. The insurance company will reimburse for any medical bills you paid out of pocket once the COBRA paperwork has been processed.
