Q: The employer got my completed application for COBRA on the same day it was they emailed it to me and I hand delivered my payment to them a few days later; which they deposited. Today, when I went to refill my Rx, and was told (by my pharmacist) my insurance was terminated. What do I do now? I filled out and returned the app and made my payment in a timely manner. What do I do if the employer did not do their part?
A: It will take the employer or their plan administrator time to process the paperwork and notify the insurance company to activate your COBRA continuation coverage. You may want to contact your previous employer for the status. You can also call the phone number on the back of your insurance ID card and they can verify your coverage. If you paid for the prescription out of pocket, you should keep the receipt and you will be reimbursed by the insurance company when the coverage has been activated.
