Q:  I am currently on bed rest. I have NOT worked for my company for less than 1 year   since I have not worked for my employer for more than one year I do not qualify for FMLA and I have no sick leave left. Since I will be in a no-pay status if the baby is born before January I will not have insurance. Is COBRA an option until I can return to work in January?

A:  Yes, COBRA would be an option for you (assuming your employer has more than 20 employees).  Your employer must offer you COBRA coverage when you lose your group benefits because of the bed rest or maternity leave.  It will be a continuation of the same benefits, same policy that you had prior to your maternity leave.
