Q:What happens if payment is received 33days late instead of 30? Can the administrator still accept payment? Can the grace period be extended?
A: If your COBRA payment is not made in a timely manner, or within the 30 day grace period than you are risking termination of your COBRA rights and coverage. Your employer or COBRA plan administrator is not obligated under COBRA law to accept a payment after the 30 grace period expired. The employer or their plan administrator may have to get approval from the insurance company before they can accept a payment past the COBRA grace period.
