10/01/2007I took a job where there is insuance. I thought my cobra ended 8/31/2007 so I did not send the next (Sept) month payment. However, I received a collection letter from my heathcare insurance stating "you will be turned over to collections if we do not receive the payment within 10 days." Do I need to pay this if I did not write a letter to cancel my Cobra?
Usually COBRA coverage automatically cancels when a payment is not received on the due date or during the 30 day grace period. To get this resolved you should contact your insurance company and let them know that you didn't pay because you became enrolled in your new employer's group health plan. You may need to submit proof in writing (copy of your new ID card) that you had other coverge.
