Q: I am currently in San Juan Puerto Rico and want to enroll in COBRA since transferring to Houston, Texas, can it be done?  Puerto Rico is part of USA, but will I be able to extend COBRA coverage to the US mainland?

A.  If your previous employer is an American company (they pay US taxes) and they have more than 20 employees they must offer you COBRA continuation.  You will need to contact your previous employer’s group health insurance company to find out if the coverage you have is available when you move to another country.  If not you can visit www.1worldinsurance.com for more information about international health insurance coverage.
