Q:  My wife and I are Realtors and technically are self employed. They reality firm a health coverage plan (which we've been on for 3 years) through a union. We've decided to change Brokerages. The new Broker doesn't offer a health plan. Here are my questions: 1) Are we eligible for the 18 months of continued coverage on our current plan? 2) Who do we contact to implement the change?

A:  If you are on a group health plan through the union you would be eligible for COBRA continuation for up to 18 months.  It is the union's responsibility to provide you with your COBRA rights and they have up to 45 days to mail you the COBRA packet form your last day of group benefits.
