Q: I was laid-off from a company I worked at for 7 years and paid COBRA for 5 months- until I got a new job. I received health insurance coverage from that company- however that employment ended after only 3 months. What I want to do is to go back to the PREVIOUS company and reinstate THEIR COBRA instead of the company I worked at for 3 months. Is that possible or do I have to take the COBRA from this last employer?
A: You cannot reinstate your COBRA from a previous employer once you obtain other health insurance or become enrolled in your new employer's group plan. COBRA is a continuation of your last employer's group health plan.
