Q: I have not yet received my first COBRA bill....I am not available to contact my previous employer, due to personal reasons. Is there another way for me to make sure I pay this?
A: If you have already received the COBRA packet and submitted the election form, your previous employer or group plan administrator does not have to send you a monthly invoice. An employee must send their COBRA payments to the previous employer, unless the employer hired a COBRA plan administrator that handles the paperwork for them. You should send your payment to the address were you mailed the election form. You have up to 45 days from the time you elect COBRA to make your first payment.
You may want to consider a health plan that isn't affiliated with your previous employer.Click Here for more information.
