Q:  I am currently covered under my wife's group policy at her joy; however her employer does not contribute to the cost. We are getting divorced and I will be loosing my health insurance. Will I be eligible for cobra and who will notify me and when will my old coverage end.

A: If her employer has more than 20 employees they must offer you COBRA continuation. A divorce from the “covered” employee is a  qualifying event and the spouse will be eligible for 36 months of COBRA.  I suggest that you contact the employer’s HR department or benefits manager to let them know you want COBRA.  It is her employer’s responsibility to mail you the COBRA packet.
