Q:  I am currently insured under COBRA and I want to know what will happen if I get pregnant under this coverage. I am afraid I will be a "pre existing condition" under another policy. Will I be able to extend my current COBRA coverage?

A:  COBRA is a continuation of an employer’s group plan.  If your employer’s plan has coverage for pregnancy and maternity, then these coverages will continue through COBRA.  The maximum amount of time you can have COBRA is 18 months.  There is no extension for pregnancy.  If you become enrolled in another employer’s group plan they can not deny you coverage because you are pregnant.  However, if you are pregnant and applying for an individual plan you can be denied.  You should contact your state at www.naic.org to see if you are eligible for a plan through them.
