Q: My employer has extended the time for COBRA to start as they never provided me with the COBRA package when I was let go. When can I expect a bill to get my payments up to date or an activation number to give my physician? I was let go in October 2007, coverage is extended until April 2008 and I faxed over the continued benefits form to Cobra on 2/24/2008.

A: You should contact your previous employer.  If they have a COBRA plan administrator they will give you their contact information.  The previous employer or plan administrator is not required under COBRA law to send you a monthly invoice or bill for your COBRA coverage. So, it will be your responsibility to keep track of the due date.  Once you make your first payment, the plan administrator will notify the employer’s health insurance company and they will re-activate your coverage.
