The company where my mom works was bought out in March 2006. The new company said they would continue her insurance through COLBRA for only 6 months, ends July 31, 2006.
Can this new company limit the COLBRA coverage to 6 months instead of the 2 years or 18 months COLBRA is ment for? The company is based in MASS.
The new company did offer her a supplemental insurance but she wants to continue her current plan for as long as she can.

Lisa, COBRA in a buyout situation is not in my experience. The Department of Labor should be able to answer your question. You can find contact info at dol.gov.

My boss asked me to contact Cobra regarding my insurance needs, I worked for this company for 11 1/2 years in which they paid the full monthly premium, as of 07/31/06 I will no longer be insured with this company.
What is my next step??
This all new to me.
